Welcome to my personal webpage!

I working as an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Management Science at the Lancaster University Management School, UK, where I lead a small team of 1 post-doc research associate, 2 software developers and 2 PhD students. I also serve as the deputy director of the Lancaster Research Centre for Forecasting, one of the largest research units in Europe dedicated to forecasting.

My research focuses on forecasting & time series prediction for logistics, supply chain management and demand planning, regularly employing methods of computational intelligence such as artificial neural networks and support vector machines.

I received my PhD on "Forecasting & Inventory Management with Neural Networks" (published by Gabler) from the University of Hamburg with summa cum laude, working as a research assistant for Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Dieter Preßmar and for Prof. Dr. Stefan Voß at the Institute of Information Systems, School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences. My thesis won the 2008 biannual "Professor Herbert Jacob award" of Hamburg University and the 2009 award of the German Operational Research society.

The following pages contain personal information on my current research, publications, presentations and opportunities for collaborative research & PhD supervision. For information on neural networks in forecasting please consult the Information Portal on Forecasting with Neural Network or on the current Forecasting Competition which I host.

My team at the research centre offers a wide range of company support, from in-house workshops to ongoing mentoring schemes and consultancy projects on forecasting and data mining.

Recent corporate projects include (select.)

We are currently pitching for multiple projects in forecasting for inventory management in logistics and supply chain management of intermittent demand. Research collaborations are welcome.

Are you interested in pursuing a PhD in the areas of forecasting, data mining and / or predictive intelligence in corporate business? Or in theoretical research or applications of regression, classification or clustering with computational intelligence on time series data?

Then please apply for a PhD by March 2010. We regularly have fully funded and partially funded PhD positions for UK-, EU- and international students available, as well as self-funded PhD positions! You will have the opportunity of obtaining additional funding by working on corporate research projects.
